Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Flashes of Franklin Central for their final contest of the regular season. The Flashes came in riding a win streak, and the Rocks were looking to preserve their own streak to finish out the season on a high note. Westfield kicked off to start this one, and the Rock D started things out with a quick three-and-out forced on the Flashes. Westfield’s offense then put together a textbook starting drive that ended with Deacon King punching it in from short (Owen Wright kick). The Rocks got another quick stop and after a great catch by Parker Knott, Westfield was back in business at the 9 as the first quarter ran out. The Rocks would quickly extend their 7-0 lead to 14 when Carsen Melvin ran it across the goal line (Wright kick). With the Rock D piling up another quick stop, King piled on the points with a 49 yard run on the next Shamrock possession (Wright kick). Thomas Vandegriff stripped the Flashes on the next drive, forcing the fumble that was recovered by Mikeah Webster. Westfield capitalized on the short field when Melvin found Preston Pekala through the air for the next Shamrock score (Wright kick). With the Rock train in full motion in the second, Westfield continued to stifle the Flashes and break this one open. Melvin found Beau Braun for 63 yards and a score on the next drive (Wright kick), and Drew Law came up with a big interception on the next possession from the Flashes. Westfield would return the favor with a pick of their own, but the Rock D slammed the door on any thoughts Franklin Central might have had of snagging some momentum going into the half. Westfields offense executed to perfection within the waning moments of the half, quickly driving down the field and calling a timeout to set up Wright for a field goal as time expired. Westfield would take a 38-0 lead into the break, along with the promise of a running clock in the second half. The Rocks received the ball to start the second half, and the second team offense put together a solid drive that ended with a Diego Herrera field goal. The drive ate up a good chunk of time in the third, and Franklin Central really only got one crack at things. This was stalled by the second string Rock D and Westfield maintained its 41-0 lead headed to the fourth. Kaleb Fancisco would recover a muffed Franklin Central punt to start the final quarter, and the third string Westfield offense capitalized on the short field with another Herrera field goal. Fighting the clock, Franklin Central would finally put a score across the goal line with 40 seconds left to play. Westfield possessed the final kickoff and time expired, sealing the 44-7 victory. Westfield received some help from Hamilton Southeastern in parallel action, as the Royals defeated the conference leading Bulldogs. This moved Brownsburg into a tie with Westfield, allowing the Shamrocks to snag a share of the HCC regular season crown. Your Rocks will look to take their regular season momentum forward into the playoffs when the 6A bracket starts in two weeks on November 1st. Westfield is set to host the Lafayette Harrison Raiders in the first round. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
