Last Friday, your Rocks traveled to Fishers to face the Tigers. Since 2006, Fishers leads in direct matchups 13-8, with Westfield only having consistent success against the Tigers in the last handful of years. As such, this was a road match that the Rocks shouldn’t take lightly. The Rocks kicked off to start the contest, and the Rock D forced the quick three-and-out. Deacon King wasted no additional time getting the scoring started with a 77-yard run on the first Shamrock offensive play. The Rock D forced another three-and-out, and Westfield’s offense put together an efficient drive that ended in another King score. Owen Wright converted the extra point this time to extend the lead to 13-0 midway through the first quarter. The Tigers had to settle for another quick punt at the hands of the Rock D, and Westfield engineered another scoring drive. This one provided a highlight when Carsen Melvin escaped what looked to be a certain sack, kept his eyes downfield and found Parker Knott. Knott then rumbled through several would-be tacklers and found the end zone. This ended the first quarter with a lot of Westfield momentum and the score 19-0 Rocks. Fishers punted again to start the second, and again the Rocks marched down the field. On this drive, they would settle for a short Wright field goal to extend the lead and eat up half of the quarter. The Shamrocks exchanged punts with Fishers for the first time on the next pair of possession, but a roughing the punter call put the ball back in Westfield’s hands. This led to another long Shamrock drive that resulted in another Wright field goal from 35 yards out. Facing a 25 point deficit and only around 30 seconds remaining in the half, Fishers desperately tried to get something going through the air before halftime. Mikeah Webster would end the hope with a big sack for the Rock D, and 25-0 Rocks would stand at the break. Westfield got the ball to start the second half, but threw it away with an unfortunate interception. The Tigers then took advantage and scored on a broken play to generate some momentum for the home crowd. Westfield blocked the PAT, and the Shamrock offense answered with another scoring drive ending with King finding paydirt (Wright kick). The Rock D picked back up and generated another stop, and King poured it in again on the next Shamrock possession. This time it was Diego Herrera with the point after, and the lead was extended to 39-6 with time winding down in the third quarter. Fishers put together a scoring drive to start the fourth quarter, but failed at the subsequent 2-point conversion. At 39-12 with around seven minutes remaining to play, the game was all but decided. Both teams made some substitutions and took to running the football. Westfield was still able to find scoring success when Karson Fitzpatrick rumbled in for the final score of the night (Herrera kick). Westfield dominated with a 46-12 final. Next Friday, your Rocks will host Franklin Central. The Flashes are hot, rattling off 5 straight conference wins and challenging the Rocks for second place in the HCC. Westfield will need to defend their home field for the last regular season game in 2024. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
