Last Friday, your Rocks came home to host the Avon Orioles. Westfield was looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, and they did so in a big way at the expense of the visitors. The Rocks started with the ball and marched right down the field in methodical fashion. Deacon King punched it in (Owen Wright kick) to put Westfield out in front by 7. Avon answered with a couple of big plays through the air and tied things up. But then, Westfield took over and didn’t look back. Broc Parker strung together solid runs that King finished off for his second score of the night (Wright kick). The Orioles missed a field goal on their next drive and the Rocks took over again. They were on the move as the 14-7 score flipped over into the second quarter. King finished the drive again with a score, his third, to extend the lead further (Wright kick). Mikeah Webster then came up big for the defense when he snagged an Oriole pass out of the air and rumbled back to the end-zone for a pick-six (Wright kick). Beau Braun contributed a big catch for a conversion on the next drive, and this time it was Parker finishing things off on the ground as Westfield began to open the flood gates (Wright kick). The Shamrock special teams unit would nearly get to the next punt of the Orioles, deflecting it and setting things up for a short field. Carsen Melvin found Gabe Aramboles for a long aerial strike to extend the lead to 42-7 with just over two minutes to play in the half. Alex Macdonald forced a fumble on the next Oriole drive that Alex Aramboles recovered. With time running out in the half, the Rocks had to settle for a field goal this time, and Wright delivered, sending the home team into the break with a 45-7 lead and the promise of a running clock in the second half. The Rocks kicked to start the second half and Drew Law stepped in for the defense to keep the homecoming crowd in a celebratory mood when he intercepted an Oriole pass. With a running clock and a big lead, Westfield was able to bring folks in off the bench, and strung together some good plays, but didn’t convert any into points. Avon continued to be stymied by the Rock D, with Keegan Day recovering a fumble in the fourth quarter for Westfield. Avon would finally punch one in with the clock continuing to speed toward zero. By the time the Orioles finished their missed extra point kick, the game was over. Westfield took care of business for homecoming with a 45-13 final. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Fishers to face the Tigers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
