Last night, your Rocks hosted the Noblesville Millers, earning a 42-21 victory. The win represents the 7th Sectional Championship for Westfield in the last decade. The Rocks kicked off to start the game, and Noblesville took full advantage of their first drive for a score. Westfield blocked the extra point try, keeping the Millers at 6 points. The Shamrock offense then went to work, answering with a Kendall Garnett scoring drive and taking a slim lead with Brody Boehm’s extra point kick. The Rock D was able to hold the Millers at the start of the second quarter, and Andrew Lieske received the Miller punt, returning it back for a touchdown (Boehm kick). The Millers then ate up a ton of clock with a 25-play drive that ended in a score. They were able to convert for 2, tying the game at 14. With only 45 seconds left in the half, the Rocks weren’t able to get a quick score, and the game remained knotted at the break. Westfield started the second half with the ball, and put together another scoring drive capped off by a powerful Garnett plow into the endzone (Boehm kick). The Rock D secured a takeaway on the next Miller possession when Noblesville fumbled around midfield and Reece Weyer recovered. Garnett and the Shamrock offense converted on the bonus possession, extending the lead to 28-14 (Boehm kick). Westfield would execute an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff, bouncing the ball off the Millers. Charles Dager corralled the loose ball for Westfield, keeping the offense on the field. The Rocks were stopped for the first time and had to punt on their next possession, but Dillon Thieneman took the ball right back for the Rocks, intercepting the Millers. The Rocks would have the ball to start the fourth quarter, up 28-14. A Westfield punt sent the ball back to the Millers, who attempted to open up their playbook a bit and orchestrate a comeback. The Rock D slammed the door, however, holding through four downs. Cole Ballard then led the offense back down the field for some additional cushion with a score (Boehm kick). Westfield would stop the Miller passing attack again on the next Noblesville possession, and then Gabe Aramboles put in for the highlight reel with a sideline to sideline catch and run for a score (Boehm kick). Facing a 14-42 deficit, the Millers went back to running the ball against Westfield’s subs. A long Miller drive drained most of what remained of the game clock before finding the end zone. The Rocks would get the ball back with 10 seconds to play, kneeling it out and securing the 42-21 championship victory. The Rocks will travel to face the Hamilton Southeastern Royals next week for the Regional Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
