Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Zionsville Eagles for the first round of the 2025 IHSAA postseason tournament. The Eagles came in with a 3-7 record (2-5 HCC), having finished 7th in the conference. Your Rocks earned the right to play another week with a 48-20 victory. Westfield received the ball to start the game, and Cato June started the scoring immediately with an opening kickoff house call (Diego Herrera kick). Unfortunately, Zionsville answered on the following kickoff with a touchdown return of their own, and 25 seconds into the game, things were knotted at 7-a-piece. The Rocks then punted on their first full offensive possession, and the Eagles looked to have some momentum. The field goal block unit was able to break through, however, and prevented Zionsville from putting three more points on the board. Westfield’s offense then went back to work and put together a scoring drive that Aiden Grabowski was able to punch in to take the lead (Herrera kick). Once again the Eagles answered, this time with a long pass for a score to tie things up at 14. The Rocks were able to move the ball once again on offense, but settled for a Herrera field goal to go up three. 17-14 was the score to end the first. Westfield started the second quarter with a defensive stop. After a punt, the offense went back to work. This time it was Elliot Clevenger rumbling in for the score (Herrera kick). The Rock D came up with another stop, and then it was Baylor Conner’s turn to find pay dirt (Herrera kick). Facing a 14-31 deficit, the Eagles pressed forward to try to find an answer. Logan Loring intercepted a deep Zionsville pass in the end zone, securing the takeaway for the Rocks and a touchback. 31-14 Rocks would stand at the break. The Rocks started on D for the second half, but the Eagles were able to put together a scoring drive out of the gate. They missed the extra point, however, and the Shamrock lead remained at three scores. Westfield’s offense keep churning out the yards and, this time, it was an excellent catch and run by Caiden Snow that set up the Grabowski punch in (Herrera kick). The teams exchanged some punts before the clock rolled over to the fourth quarter with a 38-20 Shamrock lead. Herrera notched his second field goal early in the fourth to extend Westfield’s lead, and the Rock D held firm against any potential surge from the Eagles. Cooper Melvin scampered in on the next Westfield drive to extend the lead (Nick Beam kick), and then Reid Dikos intercepted the ball from the Eagles to seal the victory for the Rocks. They were able to take a knee and lock in the 48-20 final score. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Carmel to face the Greyhounds for the Sectional Championship. Carmel is coming off an easy win over West Lafayette Harrison and sporting a 9-1 record, ranked third in the state AP poll. Kickoff is scheduled for 7PM.
