It was deja vu for the Westfield girls cross country team on Saturday at the Shelbyville Regional as the Shamrocks, for the second week in a row, came away from a meet as team champions! Westfield put together an all around great team performance to come away with the win and send the team to the state finals for the third straight year. After last week's sectional victory, the Rocks knew another good performance would be needed to come away as regional champions and they put forth their best team race of the season. Westfield put the rest of the field out of sight with a 30 point gap over the runner up team by a score of 75-105 that saw all 5 scorers place in the top 30 of the almost 250 runner field. Alivia Lozier was the Rocks top finisher placing 3rd overall in a time of 17:47. This was Lozier's 3rd top 10 regional finish of her career and the best time she has run on the Blue River cross country course. Freshmen Jenna Burns was the 2nd finisher for Westfield placing 14th overall to earn All-Regional honors by also placing in the top 20 and did so with a new PR time of 18:45. It was a total team effort by the entire lineup contributing to the team title. Just missing top 20 was Mackenna Condon placing 21st in a time of 19:02. Senior Jordyn Landrum had a huge move up in the middle of the race to end up in the top 25 placing 25th overall in a time of 19:07. Another freshmen, Emma Pitney, placed 28th to round out the scoring for the Rocks in her regional debut. Ella Bozarth came in as the 6th finisher for Westfield and was the highest placing 6th runner for any team in the race. Senior Gianna Ferreri rounded out the lineup with an overall great performance to place 48th as the Rocks 7th finisher and will compete in her third consecutive state cross country finals. With a sectional and regional title in hand, the journey continues for the Shamrocks! Westfield has qualified and will compete in the IHSAA State Finals on Saturday November 1st in Terre Haute on the famed LaVern Gibson championship cross country course ready to finish off an already amazing season! Let's Go Rocks!
