The Westfield girls cross country team competed Saturday night at the famed LaVern Gibson championship cross country course in the Nike Twilight meet in a competition that took place "under the lights" as races took place at night with stadium lights shining down on the course. The Rocks had athletes in three different races on the evening to put their footprint all over the course. Westfield got the night started strong in the JV race as they placed 10th overall as a team with 286 points. Carly Davis was the Rocks first finisher coming in at 29th place aiding in the team's 10th place finish. Annalisa Schuth was the 2nd runner for the Rocks in the JV race placing 43rd in a time of 22:52 on the challenging LaVern Gibson course. Remaining scorers for Westfield in the JV race were Jade Keefer, Norah Lahr, and Lauren Zelik. The next race featuring Shamrocks was the first Open race which saw many Westfield runners place high up in the field. Sofia Grisel had another stellar race after her win at the HCC JV meet a week ago and set another PR in 20:29 to place 15th as the Rocks first finisher. Lyla Osborn was not far behind as the 2nd Westfield finisher placing 19th in the race in a time of 20:36 continuing her consistent meet performances. Remaining scorers for the Rocks in the open race included Vivienne Lyon, Maggie Naas, and Claudia Southworth. Finally, the sun went down and the lights came on for the championship races under the lights. The Shamrocks placed 7th in a loaded field featuring many top out of state teams along with many of Indiana's best squads. Alivia Lozier was the first finisher for Westfield placing 25th overall in a time of 18:15 to lead the Rocks. Freshmen Jenna Burns had a great race and just broke under the 19 minute barrier running 18:59 to come in as the Rocks 2nd finisher on the night. Another freshmen, Emma Pitney, was Westfield's 3rd runner on the evening placing 67th in a time of 19:08. Ella Bozarth and Jordyn Landrum rounded out the scoring for the Shamrocks placing 107th and 114th respectively. A night full of fun and competition proved to be an incredible experience for the Shamrocks! Westfield will next compete in the Brownsburg Invite on Saturday October 11th in the final meet of the regular season. Go Rocks!
