The Westfield girls cross country team competed on Saturday in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Championships. The HCC hosts the best of the best in the state of Indiana and a top tier cross country meet with 5 of the 8 teams in the top 25 of the state rankings. It was your Westfield Shamrocks that came away from the meet as CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS!!! Westfield topped Zionsville in an extremely tight meet beating the Eagles by a score of 56-57. The team title marks the 10th HCC title in school history (most all-time) and the first since the 2011 season. The winning ways continued into the individual portion of the race as junior Alivia Lozier took first place in a time of 17:46 to win her first HCC cross country championship. This was the 5th time a Westfield girl has won the individual conference title and the first time since the 2006 season when Maggie Bingham won the HCC. The Rocks put 4 total runners into the top 15 with each earning all-conference honors. Mackenna Condon (10th), Jenna Burns (11th), and Emma Pitney (14th) all ran strong races to get into the top 15 and place all-conference. Jordyn Landrum rounded out the scoring for Westfield placing 20th in a time of 19:19, while Ella Bozarth placed 23rd in a new lifetime best time of 19:25 as the Rocks 6th runner on the day. Westfield had 9 total runners finish in under 20 minutes, the most the Rocks have had in the same meet in many years. Remaining Westfield athletes to run under 20 minutes were Gianna Ferreri (19:37), Sam Plummer (19:43), and Ella Lidskin (19:45). In the junior varsity race, the Shamrocks once again had an individual take first place as freshmen Sofia Grisel made a huge move in the last mile to blow by the lead pack and never look back finishing in a new personal record of 20:38 to go along with the victory. Claudia Southworth was the other Shamrock to place in the top 15 placing 9th in a time of 21:32. Westfield placed 4th as a team with 97 points as Ava Brandau (31st), Norah Lahr (32nd) and Haley Pitney (33rd) rounded out the scoring for the Shamrocks. A great day of racing set up by a competitive meet with great conditions equalled an accomplished day for Westfield cross country resulting in a HCC Championship! Westfield will be back in action next Saturday at LaVern Gibson for the Nike Twilight meet under the lights. Go Rocks!
