On Friday, your Rocks squared off against the Brownsburg Bulldogs for Homecoming. Westfield was unable to spoil Brownsburg's perfect record, suffering a hard fought 10-14 defeat. The Rocks record now sits at 4-2 (3-1 HCC). Westfield started on defense for the contest, and the teams exchanged a pair of punts quickly to start the game. Brownsburg was able to block Westfield’s punt, however, setting them up with a short field. They were able to capitalize, going up 7-0 midway through the first quarter. Another couple of punts were exchanged before the Rocks were able to push deep enough into Brownsburg territory to notch a Diego Herrera field goal. 3-7 was the score to end the first, two more punts were exchanged to start the second. The Rocks forced one additional punt before Cooper Melvin found Caiden Snow for a 63 yard scoring strike (Herrera kick). Brownsburg attempted to squeeze in an answer before the end of the half, but Logan Loring intercepted a long Bulldog heave as time expired to end the through. The Rocks took a 10-7 advantage into the break. The Rocks received the ball to start the second half, but weren’t able to get anything going. Brownsburg was able to start the second half scoring on their first drive, retaking the lead early in the third quarter. The Bulldogs intercepted the ball on the next Shamrock possession, but the Rock D came up with a big hold through four downs to take the ball back. Westfield managed to move the ball a bit, but ended up punting. The 10-14 score stuck to start the fourth. The Rock D came up big again with another hold through four downs giving Westfield’s offense the ball back with 9:40 to play. The Rocks pushed across midfield before coming up just short on a fourth-and-one, allowing Brownsburg to take back over. With time winding down, the Rock D needed to come up with another big stop, but was unable to do so. The Bulldogs gained enough first downs to be able to kneel out the clock, and the 10-14 score would hold in favor of Brownsburg. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Avon to face the Orioles. They come into the contest off of a 15-29 loss to Fishers, carrying a 3-3 (1-3 HCC) overall record. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
