Westfield girls' cross country competed on Saturday in the Marion Invite on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan University on another beautiful day against some great competition. The Rocks felt right at home at IWU, the site of the Westfield cross country team camp back in July, and used the familiarity with the course to their advantage. Westfield placed 3rd in the varsity race and saw 6 Rocks place in the top 35 of the race, all earning medals. Alivia Lozier led the way for the Rocks with a 5th place finish in a time of 18:01. Behind her, the freshmen duo of Jenna Burns and Emma Pitney placed 18th and 19th respectively both breaking the 19 minute barrier in 18:56. Other Westfield runners placing in the top 35 included Jordyn Landrum (27th), Mackenna Condon (28th), and Ella Bozarth (30th). Sam Plummer added another fantastic performance, placing 37th in 19:50 to break 20 minutes for the first time in her career and round out the top 7 on the day. In the junior varsity race, the front of the field was once again filled with green jerseys as the Rocks had 9 runners place in the top 35. Claudia Southworth led the way for Westfield with a 12th place finish in a time of 21:54. Next, a trio of Rocks came in the top 20 with Sylvia O'Neill, Ava Brandau, and Delaney Curtis placing 14th, 15th, and 16th respectively. Elle Meyers rounded out the scoring for the Rocks, placing 21st as Westfield's 5th runner, aiding in the 4th place team finish. Other Shamrocks placing in the top 35 were Haley Pitney (25th), Annalisa Schuth (28th), Jade Keefer (32nd), and Norah Lahr (34th). Westfield will head back to IWU next weekend for the Wildcat Classic before getting ready to host the Flashrock Invitational on September 20th. Go Rocks!
