On Friday, your Rocks traveled to Zionsville to face the Eagles. With the Shining Star rivalry trophy on the line, both teams came into the contest with identical 1-1 records. Westfield pulled away in the second half, securing a 27-3 victory. The Rocks started on defense for this one, and both teams opened with a pair of punts. The Rocks would cough it up on their second drive, and the first quarter would end without much action and no points on the board. The Rock D forced their first turnover on downs on the next Eagle drive, with Alex Aramboles delivering the big fourth down sack. Unfortunately, Westfield’s offense was unable to capitalize on the momentum and went three-and-out. A great punt from Noah Lee flipped the field, but Zionsville put together the best drive of the half, marching down the field and setting themselves up in the red zone with time running down in the half. Zane Newman sacked the quarterback on third down to stall the scoring opportunity, and the Eagles had to settle for a field goal as time expired. Zionsville went into the break with a 3-0 lead. Westfield opened the second half with the ball, and the offense finally came alive with a scoring drive that ended in an Aiden Grabowski scamper into the end zone. The Rock D forced a three-and-out on the Eagles, and Westfield’s offense went back to work. This time it was Deacon King powering in for the score to extend the lead (Diego Herrera kick). Alex Macdonald produced a second sack resulting in a fourth down stop on the next Eagle possession, and Westfield got it back around midfield with a 13-3 lead. The teams traded a pair of punts before Westfield’s next scoring drive. This time it was Cooper Melvin slinging the ball to Andrew Noble for a key third down conversion before King rumbled in to cap things off (Herrera kick). The Rocks took a 20-3 lead into the fourth. The Rock D came up with another four down hold to halt the Eagle drive, and Westfield took back over at their own 28 yard line. Grabowski found Noble for a 69 yard bomb to put some icing on the cake (Herrera kick). With a 27-3 lead, the teams traded punts again before the Eagles put together a drive. The Rock D once again ended the threat, this time with Logan Loring intercepting the ball in the end zone. With the game well in hand, both teams made substitutions, and the clock dwindled. 27-3 Rocks was the final score. Next Friday, your Rocks will continue the rivalry portion of their schedule when they host the Noblesville Millers. The Millers will be coming in off a loss in their conference opener to Fishers and a 1-2 overall record. With the Midland Rail Trophy on the line, Riverview Health stadium promises to be rocking. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
