The Westfield JV Shamrocks improve their record to 2-0 on the year with a wild 56-50 win vs the visiting Carmel Greyhounds. The Rocks showed explosiveness, resiliency, and timely play-making to pull out the win. There are a lot of players to credit offensively when you put up 56 points in a football game, but there were some standouts for the Rocks. Offensively, RB/TE Baylor Connor and the offensive line of Joseph Mavrick, Allen Pierce, Nathaniel Krich, Jack Eberhart, and Carson Doane really set the tone throughout the game. TE Max Vandegriff and WR Spencer Sullivan gave steady play for the Rocks during the game, making plays and blocks when their name was called. The big play(s) for the offense was an explosive 3 play TD drive coming right out of halftime to set the tone for half number 2. Defensively, it was a challenging task holding down the Greyhound O. With that being said there were a couple big plays throughout the game, the biggest being a big hit by Niko Lent to the Carmel QB to cause a fumble which was recovered by the Rocks. On special teams, kicker Nick Beam converted all of PAT’s and handled the kickoff duties extremely well. Consistent play was given by Sully Meehan and Cooper Greer in multiple units of special teams. The play of the game for the special teams unit was a surprise onside kick by Carter Greeman that was recovered by the Rocks to swing momentum back in their favor. The JV Shamrocks will open up HCC play Saturday, September 6th when they will host the Zionsville Eagles for a 10 AM kick.
