This Saturday, the Class of 2029 kicked off their high school careers with a great game against Homestead. The defense set the tone right from the get-go, locking up the opposing offense early on. Quinn Hackman led a drive culminating in his 36-yard touchdown scamper for a 6-0 Rocks lead. A fumble forced by Chase Neu was recovered by Owen Fletcher, giving the Rocks excellent field position for the following possession. Shon Edmond took a dump-off from Greyson Hampton 48 yards to the house to extend the Rocks' lead to 12-0. Homestead, however, would string multiple scores together to take a 20-12 lead in the third quarter. In a perfect response, Jay Crumedy lept over one defender, ran over a second one, and outran everyone to the endzone for a kickoff return TD, taking the momentum back for the Rocks, who never looked back. A TD strike from Hackman to Rylan Reed late in the third put the Rocks ahead for good, and the stingy defense pitched a fourth-quarter shutout on the strength of a blocked punt and Graham Miller’s second interception of the ball game to preserve the victory. The Rocks will look to improve to 2-0 on the season when they travel to Carmel to take on the Greyhounds next Saturday.
