JV Football Defeats Spartans on the Road

The Westfield JV Shamrock football team started the season off with some fireworks up in Fort Wayne on Saturday. The Rocks made the drive up to Allen County and made their presence felt with a 58-21 victory over the Homestead Spartans. There were contributors in all 3 phases, which led to such a great performance. Offensively, quarterback Ben Kooi and tight end Baylor Conner led the way with multiple great plays throughout the game. The offensive line featured 8 different players throughout the game who provided extremely consistent play in run and pass blocking. The play of the game was a long touchdown on a post route from Ben Kooi to Christopher Johns. Defensively, linebacker John Stryker led the way for the Shamrocks with plays all over the field. Max Vandegriff showed up with consistent play from his defensive end positions throughout the morning. The plays of the game for the defense were them causing and recovering fumbles on two consecutive drives. On special teams, the Rocks were led by a stellar effort from the kickoff return team. They had multiple great returns, with one for a TD. Joseph Mavrick had consistent snaps on multiple punts and field goals during the game. The plays of the game for the special teams unit were recovering the opening surprise onside kick and causing a safety on a Homestead punt. The JV Shamrocks return to action for their home opener on Saturday, August 30, at 10 AM vs the Carmel Greyhounds.
