On Friday night, your Rocks hosted the Spartans from Homestead in a non-conference matchup. It was the first game of the 2025 season, and we took the time before kickoff to recognize our seniors. Then, the team went out and earned a convincing 35-0 victory. The Rocks started on defense, and Olumide Fapetu picked off the Spartan quarterback on the second play from scrimmage. This set the Shamrock offense up with a short field, and Aiden Grabowski capitalized with a short scamper (Diego Herrera kick). The Rocks added to their 7 point lead after forcing a quick punt with a Herrera field goal. The Rock D then utilized a pair of back to back sacks to force a second punt, and take the 10-0 lead into the second quarter. The Spartans were able to catch a tipped Shamrock pass, and looked to be in business with a short field. The Rock D stiffened, however, forcing a field goal attempt that was missed by Homestead’s kicker. The teams traded punts before Westfield was able to put together a drive in the waning minutes of the half. They were able to get in close and run the clock down before attempting a Herrera field goal with time expiring. He nailed it, and the Rocks took a 13-0 lead into the break. Westfield received the ball to start the second half, and Deacon King wasted little time to break this one open, dashing 70 yards for a score (Herrera kick). The teams exchanged another pair of punts, with Isaac Weingart notching his second sack of the night when he laid a big hit on the opposing QB. On Westfield’s next offensive possession, King again broke free across the middle, this time from 50 yards out. Up 26-0, the Rocks kept the pressure on the Spartans with an excellent punt and coverage, pinning Homestead at the 5 yard line. Alex Aramboles broke through the offensive line on the possession to come up with a sack and a safety for the Rock D. It was 28-0 headed to the fourth, with the game seeming well in hand. Cooper Melvin would burst through the middle to add a long scoring run of his own. Herrera’s conversion kick extended the Shamrock lead to 35, triggering the running clock the rest of the way. Mason Keller notched a nice sack as the game approached its conclusion, allowing Westfield’s offense to take over and run one play before time expired. 35-0 was the final. Next Friday, your Rocks will travel to Carmel to face the Greyhounds in the second tilt of their non-conference schedule. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
