The Westfield boys track and field team had a great night at the Hamilton County Championships Thursday night finishing 1 point out of the championship. The Rocks were close runners up to the winning Hamilton Southeastern team 120.5-119.5 in the best county finish for the Shamrocks in recent memory. The Rocks performance was not without its high points, but the overall success was due to the team scoring in almost every event and double scoring in many. The sprinters were strong again, with the 4x100 emerging with a county championship and a county record of 41.97, just a tick off their school record in a race run in a stiff wind. The relay of Maison McCray, Caleb Terril, Cayden Gearhart, and Cato June did damage in their individual events as well, with Terril winning the 200 with Gearhart finishing 3rd, while June finished 3rd in the 100, with McCray right behind him in 5th The distance runners scored a similar double in the 800, with Will Snedeker winning, and Caleb Haney right behind him in 3rd, both of them running season best times. The 4x800 of Ty Conner, Carson Ackley, Luke Moulder, and Deagan Imel also had a great night as the runners up in the night's first event. Other high finishers included Logan Tuck who was 2nd in the 110 hurdles. In the pole vault, Alex Wilson and Lucas Bland finished 2nd and 3rd. Maxim Poirier finished 3rd in the 400 with Carson Faulconer also scoring in the event. Robert Campbell (3rd) and Kaleb Johnson (6th) double scored in the high jump, and Luke Moulder also pulled in much needed points, finishing 5th in the 1600. Also scoring were Cooper Greer in the long jump, Job Mavrick and Isaac Cole in the shot put, with Mavrick also scoring in the discus, while the 4x400 of Ryd Wallerstedt, Ridge Wallerstedt, Charlie Naas, and Landon Jones ran a great race finishing 3rd. The bys are back in action next Thursday, May 22 at the IHSAA Fishers Sectional.
