The boys track team finished 7th at the indoor State championships this past Saturday. The lone event winner of the day was senior Tom Ewing, who broke his own school record yet again in the shot put with a throw of 57 feet, 3.25 inches. Ewing's winning throw was over a foot farther than the second place finisher -- a dominant victory in the event. Ewing became the first Westfield thrower in school history to win the indoor State title in this event, and has set himself up for an outstanding outdoor season as one of the best throwers in the state of Indiana. The 4x800 relay of Sam Hinds, Landon Jones, Caleb Haney, and Colin Lakomek finished third, running an outstanding time of 7:55.17. New relay PRs were run by all four competitors -- Hinds broke the 2:00 barrier for the first time, and Lakomek's split of 1:54.2 is the fourth fastest relay split in school history. Jones, a sophomore, and Haney, a freshman, both ran PRs in the first big track meet of their lives, rising to the occasion for their teammates. The 4x400 relay of Dylan Walker, Owen Flynn, Landon King, and Lakomek finished fourth, setting a new indoor school record of 3:26.61. The four relay members ran exceptional races and finished just out of third place. Also competing for the Shamrocks were the 4x200 relay of Cade Parker, Jake Good, Gabe Aramboles, and Walker that finished 14th; and the distance medley relay team of William Cummings, Luke Sullivan, Will Snedeker, and Jack Loiselle that finished 18th.
