Rocks Drop First HCC Game in Loss to Fishers

The 7th-ranked Rocks opened a pivotal HCC series with the 2nd -ranked Fishers Tigers Thursday night at Shamrock Field. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first but the Rocks responded with a run to tie it back up in the bottom half of the inning. In the bottom of the 5th, Westfield plated two runs to take a 3-1 lead into the top of the 7th. In the 7th, the Tigers scored four unearned runs to take the lead back at 5-3. The Rocks went quietly in the bottom of the 7th to fall to the Tigers. Sam Flickinger started on the mound for Westfield, pitching 4 innings while allowing 4 hits, 4 walks, one unearned run and striking out two. Jack Blevins relieved Flickinger and pitched 2.1 innings, allowing 4 hits and one earned run while striking out two. Ian Wilson pitched .2 innings and struck out two. Offensively, the Rocks only scratched out three hits. Lincoln Hoffman was 1 for 3 with a RBI and a stolen base. Ethan Colling and Caden Lindsey each had a hit. Jake Russell stole two bases on the night as well. The loss is the Rocks first in the HCC and puts them at 10-2/4-1 on the season. The two teams will close out the HCC series Friday night at Fishers. First pitch is scheduled for 6p.
