Girls Track and Field Hosts Zionsville on Senior Night

The Westfield Shamrocks faced off against the Zionsville Eagles on Senior Night and there was no better way to honor our seniors than coming away with a team victory! Westfield defeated Zionsville with a final score of 72-54 and had several event winners on the evening. Makena Schwerin got the Rocks started with her victory in the 100 hurdles going under 18 seconds for the first time this year to also earn a varsity letter along the way to the win. Lily Sergeant returned the favor in the 300 hurdles winning the event with a NEW PR in a time of 53.43 to take first place in a close race with Schwerin placing 2nd in 53.76. Zoe Burgei was the winner of the 800 meter run in a new outdoor PR time of 2:32.85. Zoe also debuted in the shot put placing 5th and was part of the Shamrocks winning 4x400 relay team. LeBraya Warren added another individual crown to her resume this year by taking 1st place in the 200 in a time of 26.58 which was also a new outdoor PR. LeBraya was also part of the winning 4x100 relay team for the Rocks. Both Shamrock relays were victorious on the night as the 4x100 team of LeBraya Warren, Ella Jenkins, Gracie Czubik, and Katelyn Eblen won in a time of 51.07. The 4x400 also took care of business besting the field by 12 seconds when the team of Lina Abriani, Lyla Osborn, Ava Britton-Heitz, and Zoe Burgei crossed the line first in a time of 4:32.30. Westfield's field event crew continued to come away with wins as Gracie Czubik won the long jump with a leap of 16'5.5" and Alex Hamilton won the pole vault in a tiebreak as her and Ella Jenkins both jumped 11'0" with Hamilton taking the win with less previous misses. Westfield had a great meet with many event winners and lots of PR's and fantastic performances on the night in a perfect way to honor our seniors on senior night. The Rocks will be in action again on Friday with groups going to Lafayette Jeff and Franklin Central for the sprint and distance showcase meets. Go Rocks!
