JV Green Rocks Defeat Bulldogs

It came down to the wire on Tuesday at Monon Trail Elementary School, as the Westfield JV Green Shamrocks grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 9-8, over Brownsburg. The game was tied at eight in the bottom of the eighth when Alyvia Browne singled, scoring one run to win the game. Elaina Bottorff collected three hits in four at bats in the win. Bottorff singled in the fourth inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the seventh inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Shamrocks took the lead after Hayden Rice doubled down the left field line, Ava Weiderhaft grounded out, and Bottorff singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Browne singled down the right field line, which helped the Shamrocks tie the game at seven in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the eighth inning, the Shamrocks went back into the lead after Adelyn Kurth doubled to center field, and Browne singled to center field, each scoring one run to win the game. Kurth pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief for Westfield. The reliever gave up eight hits and two runs while striking out four and walking two. Olivia Sampia opened the game in the circle for Westfield. The starter gave up four hits and five runs (four earned) over two and one-third innings, striking out one and walking one. The Shamrocks collected 14 hits in the game. Sampia and Bottorff each collected three hits for the Shamrocks. Rice and Kurth each collected multiple hits as well.
