Varsity Softball Defeats Carmel, 11-4

Reese Mahannah collected three hits in four at bats, as the Rocks softball team defeated Carmel 11-4 on Wednesday. Mahannah hit a home run to center field in the fourth inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning. The Rocks got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after Sofia Easterhaus singled, scoring one run, Ava Kainrath drew a walk, scoring one run, and Chloe Tanner singled, scoring two runs. The team added five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on five hits. Kainrath doubled, scoring one run, Tanner doubled, scoring two runs, and Mahannah homered to center field, scoring two runs. Tanner earned the win for the Rocks, her first of the season. The hurler gave up three hits and one run over four innings, striking out four and walking two. Shea Vohs appeared in relief for Westfield Varsity. The Rocks tallied 14 hits in the game. Tanner provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led the team with four runs batted in. She went 2-for-4 on the day. Easterhaus, Kainrath, and Sydney Jordan each collected multiple hits. Kainrath paced the Rocks with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks for the game. Next up for Westfield Varsity is a game at Center Grove on Saturday.
