Last night, your Rocks hosted the Zionsville Eagles for the Sectional 3 Championship contest. The Eagles came in after upsetting Carmel in the first round of play, while the Rocks were chasing a fifth consecutive sectional crown. The Rocks started on D again, bending but not breaking on the first Zionsville drive. Carsen Melvin led the Shamrock onto the field, kept the ball on the first play and ran it 79 yards for a score (Owen Wright kick). The Eagles then put together another strong drive, making it all the way down to within the Shamrock 5 yard line, but a tipped pass was snagged by Drew Law for the takeaway. Melvin then found Gabe Aramboles for a 50 yard connection near the end of the first quarter, and the Rocks were in business again, up 7. Deacon King punched in it for the score early in the second (Wright kick). Zionsville then gambled to pick up a new set of downs near mid-field, but the Rock D held through four and took it back. Melvin orchestrated another score, this time scampering in off a fake (Wright kick). Samuel Poriah had a big sack to stall out the next Eagle possession, and Westfield’s offense could not be stopped. This time, it was Broc Parker running it in for six (Wright kick). With under two minutes to play in the half, Zionsville was struggling to get on the board. A desperation heave as time wound down landed in King’s hands, and he took a knee to end the half. The Rocks went into the break with a 28-0 lead. Zionsville kicked to start the second half, and Broc Parker fielded the kick and took it to the house for an immediate score. Wright’s kick extended the lead to 35, and this put the running clock into play. The Eagles would score on their next drive, but Poriah blocked the extra point. Westfield then made some substitutions and started running clock. The 35-6 score held heading into the fourth. Law recovered a fumble at the goal line, personally ending two high percentage scoring opportunities for the Eagles, and the Shamrock offense got it back looking to eat more clock. With around four minutes left, the Eagles managed a second score, trimming the lead, but Westfield was able to run the rest of the time off on their next possession. 35-13 Westfield was the final, and the Rocks secured another Sectional 3 title. Your Rocks will return to action next Friday when they will travel to Fishers to face the Tigers for the Regional Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
