Last Friday, your Rocks hosted the Raiders of West Lafayette for the first round of sectionals in the 2024 IHSAA 6A football tournament. Harrison came in with a 6-4 record, finishing second in their conference in the regular season. The Rocks started out on D, producing a quick three-and-out for the Raiders. Carsen Melvin found Parker Knott on the first Shamrock possession to start the scoring for Westfield (Owen Wright kick). The Rocks would score on all 7 of their first half possessions to put this one away in the first half. Melvin found Preston Pekala for the second score (Wright kick), and then the run game got going. Broc Parker found the endzone first on the ground (Wright kick), and then Alex Macdonald recovered a fumble for the Rocks. Deacon King capitalized on the short field for another score (Wright kick), and just like that, the Rocks were up 28-0 to end the first quarter of play. The second quarter started with the Rocks holding through four downs to take the ball back, and then Parker busted loose for a long run that King finished off in the endzone (Wright kick). Parker went for a 44 yard score on the net drive, and finished off the last score of the half as well. Wright nailed both the kicks, and it was 49-0 Rocks at the half. The Rocks started with the ball in the second half and subbed in some reserves right away. The reserves teamed up with the running clock, putting together several good drives that didn’t result in points, but ate a whole bunch of clock. The Rock D continued its absolute dominance of the Raiders, completing the shutout through the last two quarters. Chase Crabtree had a nice sack along the way, with Kaleb Fancisco producing a big pass break up. Riley Davison stripped the football on the final Raider possession, and Adrian Feltrinelli recovered for the second takeaway of the night. The Rocks kneeled things out, cementing the 49-0 victory. Next week, your Rocks will fight to extend things for another week and host the Zionsville Eagles in the sectional championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
