Freshman Football Finishes Season 7-2

This past Saturday, your freshmen Rocks competed against Franklin Central to conclude the regular season. After a possession each with no score, John Bunch housed an interception to put the Rocks up 7-0. After the Flashes tied it, Will Roh’s electrifying kickoff return jump started the Westfield offense. The Rocks quickly capitalized to double up on the Flashes. After a special teams takeaway, Jayden Verplank’s second TD in a row gave Westfield a 21-7 lead. The second quarter onslaught continued as the Rocks would block a punt and return it for yet another score. The halftime lead stood at 28-7 Shamrocks. FC would make it closer with a TD and a 2pt conversion, however Cooper Melvin responded with a fourth quarter TD strike of his own, with Dre Gant making a great catch on the other end to put the freshmen up 35-15. A furious Franklin Central rally in the final minutes put the game in doubt, and in an almost poetic fashion, the Class of 2028 concluded their freshmen football season by winning the game on a fourth and goal stop. What a way to win a game, and what a season, as the Rocks will finish 7-2 on the year. Great job to all our freshmen football players on a wonderful first season at WHS!
