Westfield cross country was back at LaVern Gibson for the Nike Twilight meet as races took place in the evening under the lights and once again the Rocks shined over the course of three different races on the night. The Rocks got off to a hot start in the JV Race where freshman Charlotte Isaacs quickly took to the front of the race and ended up with a strong 3rd place finish in a NEW PR of 21:10. The team matched that 3rd place finish in the team standings behind solid pack running from the remaining scorers. Other scoring runners for Westfield in the JV race included Zoe Burgei, Cecilia Schmidt, Jill Ewing, and Carly Herring. An additional strong performance came from senior Clara Isaacs in her final high school cross country race running to a big PR and breaking 24 minutes for the first time ever, and while doing it on a really tough course. Great job to the entire JV squad which has been one of the best in the state this season! The Open race continued to show the depth of the Rocks team in 2024 as Westfield took 5th in a field with many other great teams. Lina Abriani was the Rocks first finisher in the race placing 38th with a time of 20:54. Vivienne Lyon had another strong performance in PR fashion racing to a time of 21:01 to place 45th overall in the race. Other scorers for the Rocks in the Open race included Maryn Babb, Izzy McCulloch, and Lyla Osborn. In the varsity race that was contested with 54 teams and almost 500 competitors, the Rocks placed 17th overall among many of the state and nations best. Maggie Naas led the way for the Rocks with her 93rd place finish in a time of 19:34. Westfield had 6 total runners under 20 minutes in this race including Mackenna Condon (19:41), Alivia Lozier (19:46), Ella Bozarth (19:50), Carly Davis (19:55), and Gianna Ferreri (19:57). The Rocks had an unbelievable 1-5 split of 21 seconds to help propel them to the solid team finish. The Rocks will be competing next in the Brownsburg JV Finale on Saturday October 12th in our last competition before the start of the IHSAA tournament. Go Rocks!
