This weekend, your Rocks traveled to Brownsburg to face the Bulldogs. The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was rescheduled for Saturday due high winds across the state on Friday night from the remnants of Hurricane Helene. So, the state had to wait an additional day to see the two top ranked programs face off. Westfield started with the ball, but were unable to get anything going out of the gate. The Rock D came up big early, however, when Alex Aramboles knocked the ball free and Cato June recovered for the first takeaway of the afternoon. Carsen Melvin found Broc Parker on the next drive to convert big on fourth down, and then Mikeah Webster finished off the drive for the rocks with a score (Owen Wright kick). The ball ended up on the ground again for the Bulldogs on their next drive, and this time Isaac Weingart scooped it up for the Rocks. The 7-0 Rocks score would hold through the first quarter. To start the second, the Shamrock offense was unable to move the ball much, and the ensuing punt snap sailed high for the Rocks. This set Brownsburg up on the Shamrock 11 yard line. The Bulldogs capitalized on the extremely short field, and a pair of encroachment penalties on the PAT block team set the Bulldogs up for an easy two-point conversion. Westfield tried to answer with a drive that featured a long Melvin to Gabe Aramboles connection, but they would fail to convert a first down on the 9 yard line. The Rock D would force a quick Bulldog punt, and Westfield pushed back down the field to the 15. Facing another fourth down, they settled for the chip-in field goal from Wright, taking back the lead. The Bulldogs would run out the rest of the half, and the 10-8 Rocks lead would hold heading into halftime. Brownsburg received the ball to start the second half, and the Rock D forced a quick three-and-out. The Shamrock offense snagged a first down, before having to punt it away themselves. Keegan Krupp then intercepted a Bulldog pass on the next drive, taking the ball back for Westfield. He bobbled it a bit, and the ball ended up in Alex Aramboles’s hands for the takeaway. Westfields offense found themselves in another fourth and goal situation, failing to convert again, and sending possession back to Brownsburg. The Bulldogs coughed it up for the fourth takeaway of the afternoon when Ainsley Awali recovered for the Rocks. Melvin converted a tough fourth down with a great catch by Beau Braun, but the offense would settle for a second Wright field goal, extending the lead 13-8. Brownsburg then took the ensuing kickoff all the way for a score, failing at the two-point conversion and taking a 14-13 lead into the fourth quarter. Westfield had a quick three-and-out to start the fourth, and Brownsburg then put together a strong drive that eventually turned into a field goal when the Rock D stiffened near the end zone. Facing a 17-13 deficit, the Rocks would get two cracks at it on offense, with a solid Rock D stop in between, but would fail to gain much ground on both possessions. Brownsburg eventually took back over with less than a minute remaining and were able to kneel it out to hand the Rocks their first defeat of the season. Next week, your Rocks will come home to face the Avon Orioles as conference play continues. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
