Rocks Advance to Sectional Championship With Win Over Carmel

Last night, your Rocks traveled to Carmel and faced the Greyhounds in the first round of Sectional 4, earning a 28-9 victory. The win represents the first time the Rocks have defeated Carmel since the 1950s, and the first ever post-season victory over Carmel. The Shamrocks started on D, forcing a fumble on the first possession that was recovered by Anthony Feltrinelli. A miscue on the offensive side of the ball sent the ball back to the Greyhounds with a short field. The Rock D was able to hold Carmel to a field goal, and the Shamrock offense wasted no time in responding with a scoring drive. Max Nosler rumbled in for a touchdown (Brody Boehm kick), taking the lead for the Rocks with around one minute left to play in the first quarter. It was a lead that the Rocks would not relinquish for the rest of the contest. The Rocks came up with a big sack to force a punt at the start of the second quarter, but were unable to get much going on the subsequent offensive drive. A short punt set the Greyhounds up with good field position, but again the Rock D forced them to settle for a field goal. Another stymied Shamrock offensive drive saw the Greyhounds with the ball, marching, down a single point, but Andrew Lieske came up with a big interception in the end zone, taking momentum back for the Rocks. Kendall Garnett then turned up the heat with some blistering runs on the next drive, freezing a defender with a slick move and taking it to the house for the score (Boehm kick). The Rocks would go into the halftime break up 14-6. A quick three-and-out from the Shamrocks started the second half, and Carmel put together a drive on their first possession. For the third time, however, the Rock D stiffened with their backs against the wall and the Greyhounds had to settle for a field goal. The Shamrock offense then answered again with a scoring drive when Cole Ballard slipped his way into the end zone for a score (Boehm kick). The Rock D punctuated the end of the third quarter with a four-down hold, securing the 21-9 lead heading to the fourth quarter. The Rocks put things further out of reach with a powerful Garnett score early in the fourth (Boehm kick). The Rock D slammed the door on the next Carmel possession when Sam Bola came up with a big third down sack, and the Rocks took over after four downs. With subs in, the Shamrocks milked time off the clock before giving the ball back for a few final Greyhound plays. With time expired, the Rocks headed home with another week of football secured and a 28-9 win over Carmel. The Rocks will host the Noblesville Millers next week for the Sectional 4 Championship. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
