The Shamrocks opened up the 2024 cross country season over the weekend competing in the Valley Kickoff meet In Terre Haute, Indiana. A hot and humid morning saw tough racing conditions for Westfield, but the Rocks were still able to put up many solid performances throughout the day. The Rocks placed 15th as a team in the girls varsity race in a 40 team field. Westfield was led by Junior Izzy McCulloch placing 103rd in a time of 23:09. Sam Plummer placed 105th as the Rocks 2nd finisher just fractions behind McCulloch also in 23:09. Remaining scorers for Westfield included Lyla Osborn, Olivia Barnett, and Eliana Colon. Claudia Southworth and Maryn Babb rounded out the top 7 on the day for the Rocks with all 7 runners under 24 minutes. The varisty crew posted a very impressive 17 second 1-5 split showing great pack running! The junior varsity race also saw a few stellar performances to get the season started. Freshmen Vivienne Lyon and Sophomore Jill Ewing were the Rocks first finishers in the JV race placing 32nd and 33rd respectively both with a finish time of 25:07 to lead Westfield to a 5th place team finish. Remaining scorers for the JV squad included juniors Delaney Curtis, Kiernan Harrington, and Ava Brandau. Westfield will compete next at the Plainfield Relays on August 24th at Swinford Park. Go Rocks!
