The Westfield Girls Track and Field Team competed in the Lafayette Jeff Regional Tuesday night, producing one Regional Champion, one huge surprise and several state qualifiers. The champion was Lucy Hauser, who won the 300 hurdles to automatically qualify for the state meet on May 31. The surprise was Alex Hamilton in the pole vault, who bested her PR by a foot, finishing 4th and putting herself in a great position for a call back. Also likely (though not officially) qualifying for the state meet are Alivia Lozier in the 3200, Gracie Czubik in the high jump, and the 4x400 of Maggie Naas, LeBraya Warren, Jordyn Landrum, and Hauser. Of special note, Jada Henson had a great performance in the shot put throwing a PR and just missing the call back to the state meet. Also putting in a great effort in two events but just missing a call back was all-time Westfield great Liz Smith in the 4x800 and the 3200. Official call backs are a day away, but the the girls team will be back in action on Friday, May 31 at the IHSAA State Track and Field Championships at IU Bloomington.
