Last night, your Rocks traveled to Brownsburg to face the top-ranked Bulldogs, falling 14-31. Westfield received the opening kick, putting together an efficient drive that ended with a touchdown where Cole Ballard found Max Nosler for six (Brody Boehm kick). The Rock D then forced a Bulldog punt on the following possession, and the Rocks had the lead and the ball after the first quarter, 7-0. Midway through the fourth, after the Bulldogs got it back, they scored to tie things up. The Shamrock offense turned the ball over on their next possession, and Brownsburg capitalized on the short field with a second quick score to take the lead. The Rocks would turn it over on downs with their next possession, but Tyler Dikos would snag the ball back for the Rocks with an interception on defense. With time winding down in the half, Westfield settled for heading in at half down 7-14. The Bulldogs started the second half with the ball, but their scoring opportunity was cut short when the ball was punched out and recovered by Gabe Aramboles for a touchback. Unfortunately, the Rocks failed to picked up a fourth-and-one on the ensuing drive, and the Bulldogs took back over, rushing the tempo into the teeth of the Rock D, and scoring just before the third quarter expired. It was 12-7 Brownsburg headed into the fourth. Westfield would come up empty on an answering attempt, and Brownsburg pushed back into Shamrock territory once more, this time settling for a field goal to extend the lead. The Shamrock offense would make one last, valiant push to try to punch in a score in the second half, but it was not to be. The Bulldogs broke a long run on their next possession as the waning minutes of the game were ticking off the clock, effectively putting the game out of reach. Still, Kendall Garnett seized upon opportunity and returned the next kickoff to the house, notching some final points for the Rocks (Boehm kick). It was too little, too late, however, and the Bulldogs were able to kneel things out and secure their 31-14 victory. The Rocks will return to action next Friday when they host the Avon Orioles. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
