Last night, your Rocks traveled to Noblesville to face the Millers, earning a 34-33 victory and retaining the Midland Rail rivalry trophy. Westfield received the opening kick again this week, putting together an efficient opening drive that ended with Cole Ballard finding a wide-open Kendall Garnett in the end-zone (Brody Boehm kick). The Millers would answer on their first possession, setting the tone for what would become a back-and-forth contest all night. Ryan Creager powered the Shamrock offense on the next possession, punching it in to regain the lead (Boehm kick). The Millers answered quickly with a long run, knotting things at 14 to end the first quarter. The Rocks were rescued from a fourth-and-extremely-long by a roughing penalty, capitalizing on the early mistake with Garnett finding the end-zone for the second time (Boehm kick). The Millers again answered with their first pass of the game going for a touchdown, and tying it up at 21. The Rocks worked the clock on their next offensive possession, maneuvering down field to set up a pretty Gabe Aramboles catch in the corner of the paint for a touchdown and the lead (Boehm kick). With only 30 seconds remaining the half, the Millers took a knee and the Rocks headed into the break with a 28-21 advantage. The Millers started the second half with a methodical score, but failed to convert the 2-point conversion try, leaving Westfield with a slim, one-point lead. The Shamrocks answered with Ballard powering it in for a score, but a missed kick kept the lead at 7. The Rock D would finally find their first stop of the night, holding through four downs to end the third. It was 34-27 headed to the fourth, Rocks with the ball. Westfield would take that possession all the way down to the one yard-line before failing to punch it in on fourth down and giving the Millers another shot. Noblesville ate up almost the entire fourth quarter plodding downfield and scoring with 51.8 seconds left in the game. Down one, the Millers elected to go for two and the potential win. The Rock D, which had struggled all night, came up big with the game on the line, stopping the Millers. Noblesville would attempt an onside kick that was recovered by Westfield, and then the Rocks were able to kneel it out and seal this victory at 34-33. The Rocks will return to action next Friday when they host the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
