Westfield Shamrocks JVW defeat the Carmel Greyhounds 17-3 on opening day. The Shamrocks JVW put on an outstanding performance against the Carmel Greyhounds. Sam Flickinger got the win for The Rocks going 4 innings with 6 strikeouts, no walks and allowed 2 runs. Aiden Trevino pitched 2 innings in relief allowing 1 run with no walks and 1 strikeout. The bats were hot for the Shamrocks JVW team. They collected a total of 18 hits on the day. Bryce Swadener went 4 for 6 at the plate with 2 doubles and 4 stolen bases. Kaden Jessup went 4 for 5 at the plate with 2 doubles and 2 stolen bases. Ryker Brenneman went 2 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Maddox Novotny went 2 for 5 and Colton Price went 2 for 3. Robbie Brandenburg, Brady Bafia, Logan Robe, and Evan Govert each collected 1 hit on the day. Evan Govert was brought in for a pinch hit situation and homered to deep left field in the top of the 7th inning. When asked about his thoughts Evan would go on to say “I just swung like normal and thought it was a pop up.” Needless to say the offseason work that The Westfield Shamrocks have put in are starting to pay off. Great first win and the Shamrocks look towards taking on the Franklin Central Flashes Wednesday and Thursday.
