Rocks Defeat Bears 42-27 on Senior Night

Last Friday night, your Rocks hosted the Lawrence Central Bears, earning a 42-27 victory. The Rocks set the tone from the start, forcing a three-and-out on the first Bear possession, and then blocking the ensuing punt. The blocked punt was recovered in the end zone by Ethan Colling for the first Shamrock points (Boehm kick). The Rock D followed that with another stop, and this time Cole Ballard sprung free on the quarterback keeper for 38 yards and a score (Boehm kick). The Bears were able to answer this score with one of their own, converting for two to bring the score to 14-8 Rocks. Ballard then found Gabe Aramboles on the next possession for 58 yards and a score (Boehm kick). The Bears would start the second period with the ball and an 8-21 deficit. The Rock D held through four downs, handing the ball back to the offense. Unfortunately, after flipping the field, the Rocks were intercepted in their red zone, and the Bears took back over at their own 12. Lawrence Central put together an explosive drive, punching it in from short and trimming the lead to 21-14 Rocks. After a string of two-point conversion attempts were stopped, the Rocks took back over, but only managed a short punt after a few plays. That left the Bears with a little over 30 seconds and a short field to try to sneak one in before the half. The Rock D was able to hold, however, securing at 21-14 lead going into the break. Westfield started the second half with the ball, and Ballard wasted no time finding Max Nosler, who rumbled 65 yards down the field for a score (Boehm kick). The Bears responded with their own scoring drive, keeping things at a single score differential. Ballard went back to Nosler on the next Shamrock possession, finding the end zone for a second time (Boehm kick). The Bears again answered, and the Shamrocks stalled on their next drive, punting. Lawrence Central would start the fourth with the ball, trailing 35-27. William Goodvine would spark the Rocks with a fumble recovery to start things down the home stretch. The Shamrock offense capitalized on the takeaway, with Ballard scampering in to extend the lead back to two scores. The Rock D forced a punt on the next drive, but Westfield fumbled the ball back to the Bears on their subsequent drive. Lawrence Central pressed forward with hopes for a score, but Sam Toney dashed their hopes when he intercepted the ball in the end zone. The Rocks took back over, up two scores, with 2:23 left on the clock. They tried to salt things away with a couple first downs, but ended up punting with around a minute left. It was enough, as the clock ran out on the Bears, and the Rocks notched their first win, 42-27. The Rocks will return to action Friday when they host the Zionsville Eagles with the Shining Star rivalry trophy on the line. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
