The boys varsity basketball team played their first game of the year, at Kokomo, on Saturday night. Kokomo Memorial Gym was packed out for this early season matchup between the #2 Wildcats and the #12 Shamrocks, and the play on the floor did not disappoint. The game was back and forth all first half long. The Rocks led by two points at the end of the first quarter, but Kokomo flipped the script in the second quarter, gaining a four point advantage at half. Kokomo started to pull away in the second half, and led by as many as 10 points, but the Rocks came storming back in the fourth quarter. After an 18-8 4th quarter run, Westfield led by three with 16 seconds to go. Kokomo had a chance to tie, but the Rocks forced a turnover that led to a fast break dunk to seal the game. Trey Buchanan had 17 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Charles Farrell added 9 points and 4 rebounds. Nic Book scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. Caleb Wise scored 9, and Will Harvey and Durante Morton each scored 7.
