This past weekend, your freshmen Shamrocks football team battled the Fishers Tigers for the right to improve to 8-0 on the season. The freshmen Rocks came into the game having trailed on the scoreboard for less than three minutes of game time all season, however it was Fishers that would jump out to an early lead at 7-0 in the first quarter. After a slow start, the Rocks were able to trim the lead to one point following an Everett Virgona touchdown run early in the second. The Tigers would score another touchdown and threaten again before halftime, but a Blake Richardson interception ended the immediate threat and took us to halftime with the score standing at 14-6 Fishers. After stopping the Shamrocks offense to open the second half, the Tigers offense took over with an opportunity to extend the lead once again. The hing moment would come on this drive following a defensive stop near midfield, as Charlie Weaver broke through the Fishers lines to block a punt, which was then scooped up by Maddox Buker and taken to the endzone for a Westfield touchdown. Luke Drow ran in a two point conversion on the subsequent play, and just like that, the Shamrocks had pulled even. A defensive fourth down stop just outside the red zone gave the ball back to the offense to open the fourth quarter, now with a chance to claim Westfield’s first lead of the day. They did just that, with Luke Drow calling his own number not once, but twice down by the goal line to score a touchdown and convert another two point conversion. The Shamrocks comeback was now complete, with a 22-14 lead and needing just one more stop to continue their perfect season. Fishers would put together quite a drive. A fourth down conversion and a downfield jump ball catch put the Tigers past midfield, and a 4th & 20 conversion gave the Tigers life in the red zone. However, it would not be enough, as Owen Tucker came down with a diving red zone interception to seal the game and put the Shamrocks on the cusp of an undefeated freshmen season. The Shamrocks will look to complete their season at a perfect 9-0 as they take on Franklin Central next Saturday at home. Finish strong, Rocks!
