Last Friday, your Rocks traveled to Fishers to face the Tigers. Westfield maintained sole possession of second place in the conference with a 42-21 victory. The Rocks started on D, and Fishers came out firing on all cylinders. The defense got backed all the way up to the three before Max Vandegriff was able to strip the football to generate a takeaway. The Shamrock offense took over and pushed right back down the field. Cooper Melvin kept it from 15 yards out for the first score of the night (Diego Herrera kick). Fishers answered with a strong second drive, this time evening things with a score of their down. Westfield’s offense quickly fired back when Melvin found Andrew Noble on a 62 yard bomb to snatch the lead back (Herrera kick). With a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, the Rock D forced a punt that rolled down to Westfield’s 7 yard line. The Shamrock offense notched another long touchdown, this time when Melvin connected with Henry Everts for a 50 yard score (Herrera kick). Westfield’s defense held up for the last five minutes of the half, and the 21-7 lead stood at halftime. Westfield received the ball to start the second half, and Elliot Clevenger punctuated the opening drive with a 10 yard touchdown (Herrera kick). Fishers kept up the good fight, answering with a long drive and trimming the lead back to 14. Maison McCray then broke loose for the Rocks, rocketing down the sideline for a 70 yard score (Herrera kick). Westfield headed to the fourth with a 35-14 lead and the Tigers with the ball. They scored to once more trim the lead to 14, but time was beginning to dwindle. Westfield’s offense made sure to put things out of reach when Clevenger rumbled in from 46 yards out to extend the lead (Herrera kick). The Rock D would hold on a last gasp drive from Fishers, taking the ball back after four downs to end any threat. Westfield’s dominant offense snagged a couple first downs and ran the clock down to seal the 42-21 win. Next Friday, your Rocks will finish off the regular season hosting the Franklin Central Flashes. FC is coming off a loss to HSE and sitting in the bottom half of the conference with a 3-5 (2-4 HCC) record. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
