Event Details (Game Recap) Last Friday, your Rocks came home to face the Royals of Hamilton Southeastern. While the student body anointed its own royalty during the halftime festivities, the Rocks preserved the kingdom with a dominant 36-7 victory. The win keeps Westfield undefeated at 5-0 (3-0 HCC), 2nd in the state, and in the top 100 nationally at 94. Westfield kicked to start things off, and the Rock D quickly forced the three-and-out. The Shamrock offense conquered the field on their first drive with Maison McCray finishing things off from the 9 yard line. The extra point started to go somewhat awry, but Carter Greeman converted the broken play into two points by finding Henry Everts in the back of the end zone. HSE looked to answer with a strong drive of their own, but the Rock D stiffened and held through four downs to take the ball back just inside the red zone. Westfield’s offense then stormed the field for a second time, this time devouring the distance with two big chunk plays for a second score. Cooper Melvin found Andrew Noble for 40 yards, and then McCray dashed down the remaining 42 yards. Herrera’s kick put Westfield up 15-0, and the Rocks would take that lead into the second quarter. Both teams ate up the second quarter with some long drives, but the Rock D kept the shutout, and Baylor Conner converted a tough 4th and 1 for the offense to extend the drive. McCray darted in a few plays later to extend the lead to 22 (Herrera kick). Spencer Sullivan took the ball back from the Rocks on the next Royal drive with an interception in the closing minutes of the half. Westfield ran the clock all the way down and yielded the field to the court with a 22-0 lead. The Rocks started with the ball in the second half and McCray opened things up with another explosive run. This time he scored from 73 yards out (Herrera kick). HSE tried once more to get the momentum to swing with a long drive, but the Rock D produced its second turnover on downs to take the ball back. Melvin and Noble connected for another big 48 yard gain to set the Rocks up for what would be their final score of the night. Melvin found Conner to cap things off and Herrera converted to extend the lead to 36. The fourth quarter began with the 36-0 Shamrock margin and a running clock. Both teams made some substitutions and exchanged a few punts as this one wrapped up. HSE was eventually able to push one into the end zone, but time ran down and the Shamrocks reigned for Homecoming with their 36-7 victory. Next Friday, your Rocks will face their toughest test of the season so far when they travel to Brownsburg to face the Bulldogs. The marquee matchup will feature the top two teams in the state and put the winner in the driver’s seat to take the conference. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
