On Friday, your Rocks made the short trip to Noblesville to face the Millers with the Midland Rail rivalry trophy on the line. The big trophy will stay in Westfield yet again as the Rocks kept rolling with a 39-7 victory. The Rocks started on defense for this game and quickly forced the Millers to punt. Westfield’s offense then put together a long drive that ended with Evan Crow squeezing through a small lane to punch it in from 6 yards out (Diego Herrera kick). The Millers couldn’t get anything going on their second drive, and this time Maddox Novotney ripped off a great punt return to set the Rocks up. Westfield settled for a long Herrera field goal to go up 10-0. The D continued to dominate and, after the third Miller punt of the night, Westfield pulled a trick play out to engineer another score. Cooper Melvin lateralled the ball back to Novotney, who chucked it to a wide-open Baylor Conner for the 58 yard touchdown (Herrera kick). The Rocks took a 17-0 lead into the second and forced their fourth punt of the game. Westfield would convert their drive into more points with another Herrera field goal, this one from 21 yards out. Another punt from the Millers continued the cadence, but Westfield fumbled the football to give the Millers a small spark. The Rock D slammed the door, holding through four downs to take the ball back as time dwindled in the half. Westfield moved quickly down the field to set up a long field goal try as time expired, but the kick was no good. The Rocks took a 20-0 lead into the break. Westfield received the ball to start the second half and marched down the field for another score. Maison McCray punched it in this time and Herrera converted the kick. The Rocks kept forcing punts on defense, and a second Westfield turnover, this time on a tipped pass, looked to give the Millers a small amount of momentum. Joey Miles nipped that one in the bud, though, when he took the ball right back with a pick of his own. Conner capitalized on the following possession with a strong run from 11 yards out for the score (Herrera kick). Westfield headed to the fourth with a comfortable 33-0 lead. Noblesville missed a long field goal in the early minutes of the quarter, and then Westfield threw its second interception of the game. This one allowed the Millers to finally break through for a score, but Westfield answered with a long drive capped off by Shon Edmond’s 20 yard run (Herrera kick). With time waning, the Rocks got another stop, and then were able to kneel things out, sealing the 39-7 victory. Next week, your Rocks will host the Hamilton Southeastern Royals. The Royals are 2-2 (1-1 HCC) on the season and coming off a 49-35 win against rival Fishers. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
