This past Saturday, the freshmen Rocks played host to the Carmel Greyhounds. The Shamrocks got out to a great start, with Everett Virgona taking the opening kickoff all the way back for a touchdown. On Carmel’s first offensive possession, Andrew Mendez took the ball away himself, both causing and recovering a fumble to put the offense back out on the field. They took quick advantage of the opportunity, with Virgona scoring his second touchdown of the day just three plays later. Following another defensive stop, Luke Drow called his own number from 47 yards out to put the Shamrocks ahead 21-0. Drow was on it again the following drive, delivering a strike to a wide open Blake Richardson for a 43 yard touchdown. Following an Elijah Miller fumble recovery, Virgona scored his third touchdown of the first half to give Westfield a 35-0 halftime lead and a running clock in the second half. During the second half, Nicholas Hruskocy intercepted a Carmel pass and ran it back all the way for a 70 yard pick 6. On the ensuing possession, Fife Adedire was able to come down with a downfield interception, sealing the 41-0 victory for the Rocks. What a performance by your freshmen Shamrocks football team! From start to finish, in all 3 phases, no matter who was on the field, the entire team upheld our high standard of play and exemplified what it means to be prepared, play hard, be excited for your teammates, and achieve victory with honor. Well done! The freshmen Shamrocks will be at home again next weekend as they set their sights on the Zionsville Eagles.
