The Westfield Freshman football team traveled to Avon to face off against the Orioles. Action picked up in the second quarter when Spencer Sullivan returned an Avon punt 62 yards to the 5 yard line, making several Avon defenders miss during the process. The next play, Maddox Novotney, led by a great push by the offensive line, found his way into the endzone for his first touchdown of the season, tying the game 6-6. Avon would score again, but fail on their ensuing 2 point conversion attempt to take the lead 12-6. Corey Carter would proceed to return the ensuing kick-off 35 yards to the midfield line. The following play, QB Ben Kooi, given plenty of time by the offensive line, was able to connect with Baylor Conner on a long catch and run setting up another touchdown run by Maddox Novotney. The Rocks decided to go for 2 and QB Ben Kooi powered through a would-be defender giving the Rocks a 14-12 lead going into half time. The second half was a defensive battle. Unfortunately, the young Rocks fell short by a score of 18-14. They will be back in action next Saturday at home against the Fishers Tigers.
