Last night, your Rocks traveled to Avon to face the Orioles, earning a 38-14 victory. The win puts the Shamrocks at 6-1 (4-1 HCC). Westfield started on defense for this one, stopping the Oriole charge out of the gate. The Shamrock offense sputtered a bit on their first possession, but the Rock D held firm, coming up with a couple big sacks to get the ball back in Westfield’s hands. This time, the offense ate up the field with a 67-yard Jackson Gilbert to Beau Braun air strike that set the table for Kendall Garnett to finish off for a score (Brody Boehm kick). The 7-0 Rocks lead would hang shortly into the second quarter, when Avon put together a scoring drive to tie things up. The teams traded a pair of punts before Westfield would answer with Gilbert finding Maximus Nosler for the second score of the night (Boehm kick). The Rock D would sniff out an RB screen to end Avon’s attempt to answer, getting the ball back with 45 seconds left in the half. Despite a promising drive, time would wind down on the Shamrocks, and a 49-yard field goal try would fall short as time expired. The Rocks settled for a 14-7 lead at the break. With the ball in their hands to start the second half, the Rocks came out firing and Gilbert found Gabriel Aramboles for a score (Boehm kick). Westfield’s defense halted any hope of an Avon answer, and the special teams came up big when they tackled the punter on an errant snap. This set the Sharmocks back up at the Avon 7 yard line. The Rocks capitalized with Mikeah Webster punching it in (Boehm kick). With the lead now extended to 28-7, the Rocks looked to salt this one away as the game moved into the fourth quarter. A couple of untimely Westfield turnovers provided the Orioles enough opportunity that they were able to trim the lead with a score. Westfield answered with Boehm field goal, and then Webster snagged some Oriole air mail on defense, taking possession back for the Shamrocks. Garnett finished off the late-game surge-killer for the Rocks with his second score of the night (Boehm kick). With the lead secured once more, and the final quarter showing only three-and-a-half minutes on the clock, both teams made some substitutions to wind things down. Westfield had one highlight left, when Landon Porter picked off an Oriole pass and rumbled all the way down to the 1 yard line before getting stopped. The Rocks would kneel it out there, content to seal their 38-14 victory. Next week, your Rocks will host the Fishers Tigers for their last regular season home game of the 2023 season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7pm.
