The Westfield Boys track team competed in a rain-interrupted IHSAA State Track and Field Meet Saturday, June 6, at North Central High School. At the end of the very long night, the boys walked away with one set of medals and a lot of great performances. The 4x100 relay of Caleb Terril, Logan Tuck, Cayden Geathart, and Olu Fapetu, which has set several school and meet records over the course of the season, finished 4th in the state, earning all-state honors for the relay, and bettering the relay's finish from last year by 3 spots. Every member of the team had also qualified in individual events; Gearhart and Fapetu in the 100, Terril in the 200, and Tuck in the 110 hurdles. There were also some excellent performances at the state meet from athletes who did not medal. Brady Lemieux equaled his season PR in the pole vault, finishing just one spot out of the medals in 10th place. Brady, just a sophomore, had a remarkable season and gained incredible experience that he can use at state next year--not just in the competition, but also in how to power through a mid-event lightning delay. Another outstanding performance was put in by Ryd Wallerstedt in the 400. His time of 49.13 was both a PR for Ryd and is the 2nd fastest 400 in school history. The 4x800 relay of Nathan McKeever, Caleb Haney, Deagan Imel, and Carson Ackley also finished out the medals in 12th place, but ran the relay's best time of the year, stepping up on the biggest stage of the year, as most of the Westfield athletes did. In the theme for the year, both Luke Moulder, a junior (1600), and Jack Eberhart, a sophomore (shot put), finished off their great years, gaining important state meet experience which they are sure to repeat next year. Prior to the meet, Academic All-State honors were announced: Jackson Dukes, Olu Fapetu, Graham Hoffman, Deagan Imel, Nathan McKeever, JP Mikels, Caleb Rasche, and Logan Tuck were all Academic All-State, while Carson Ackley, Caleb Haney, Maison McCray, and Chase Thompson were honorable mention.
