Westfield JVW Rocks battled all game in a hard-fought 2-1 matchup against Avon on Thursday night, showing grit on the mound and putting together quality at-bats throughout the lineup. Austin Wheelhouse set the tone with a strong start, striking out seven hitters across five innings while allowing just one earned run and keeping Westfield within striking distance all night. Wyatt Walker came out of the bullpen and slammed the door with a dominant inning of relief, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Offensively, Blair Gallienne led the charge with a two-hit performance and showed consistency at the plate. Logan Turner delivered an RBI hit to bring home Westfield’s lone run, while Quinn Hackman and Ryan Mitchell each added key hits to keep pressure on Avon’s defense. The Rocks continued to compete from first pitch to final out and once again showed the toughness and fight that have become part of Westfield baseball.
