Westfield track and field opened up the IHSAA postseason tournament, competing in the Sectional round on Wednesday after storms postponed the meet a day. The Shamrocks put on a great performance, placing 3rd as a team with multiple event winners, a plethora of point scorers, and many athletes advancing to the regional! Westfield's 3rd-place team finish is the highest for the Rocks since the 2008 season. The total of 97 points was only 3 off 2nd-place HSE and is also the program's best since 2008. The historic team day also had some great individual performances. The Rocks' two event winners and Sectional champions on the day were Katelyn Eblen in the 100 hurdles, racing to a new personal best of 14.94, and Gracie Czubik winning high jump with a leap of 5'5". Additional events placing top 3 that automatically qualified for the regional round were Jenna Rhodes in the 100 hurdles, Eblen in the 300 hurdles, LeBraya Warren in the 200, and Ella Jenkins in the pole vault. Other Shamrock events scoring points and contributing to the 3rd place team finish were the 4x800 relay team of Sam Foster, Jenna Burns, Gianna Ferreri, and Hayley Pitney, Addy Busch and Izzy Brady in the 100, Emma Pitney and Mackenna Condon in the 1600, the 4x100 relay team of Melody Lowry, Busch, Brady, and Warren, Jenna Moulder and Maggie Naas in the 400, Rhodes in the 300 hurdles, Jordyn Landrum and Emma Pitney in the 800, Busch in the 200, Burns in the 3200, the 4x400 relay team of Lowry, Landrum, Naas, and Moulder, Jolie Miller in high jump, and Fiona Farrar in discus. Westfield is on to the regional round and will be represented in 12 events! Shamrocks will head to Lafayette Jeff High School on Tuesday, May 26th, for the IHSAA regional meet as we continue the road to state. Let's Go Rocks!
