The Rocks opened a crucial Hoosier Crossroads Conference game with Hamilton Southeastern on Thursday night. The Rocks enter the contest tied with Fishers at 6-4 in HCC play, one game back from Noblesville and Hamilton Southeastern. In this game, Westfield snatched the lead late in their 5-4 victory over Hamilton Southeastern. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Nick Fero doubled, scoring the go-ahead run. HSE opened the scoring in the first after scoring one run, but Westfield jumped into the lead in the top of the second when Maddox Novotney singled, scoring one run, and Andrew Noble doubled, scoring two runs. HSE tied the game at three in the bottom of the fifth and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the 6th inning. With their backs against the wall in the top of the seventh inning, Westfield went back into the lead after Aiden Grabowski hit a sacrifice fly, and Nick Fero doubled to left field, each scoring one run. The Rocks handled a threat by the Royals in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 5-4 win and improve to 7-4 in HCC play. Corey Wilhelm started on the mound for the Rocks and earned a no-decision, throwing 5 innings while allowing six hits, two earned runs, one walk, and striking out seven. James Kovacs earned the win for Westfield. The reliever surrendered two hits and one run (zero earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking one. Offensively, Andrew Noble was 2 -for-4 with a double and two RBI. The two teams will close out the HCC series at Shamrock Field on Friday at 6 p.m.
