The Westfield boys track team went to Guerin Catholic HS Thursday evening for the Hamilton County Championships. It was a very important meet for the Shamrocks, winning 4 events, finishing 2nd in the meet and gaining a number of important performances that set up the team's post-season run. Once again, the sprinters dominated the meet. Olu Fapetu and Cayden Gearhart finished 1 and 2 in the 100 dash. Both athletes ran personal bests, both ran faster than 11 seconds for the first time, and both ran under the state standard, which means that Westfield will run three in the 100 at the sectional. Olu's time is currently #8 in the state, and Cayden is #26. Olu also broke the school record. Maybe even more impressive was Maison McCray, running only one event to get a little rest between conference and sectional, but running the 3rd fastest time in the state this year at 21.51. Not only did that break his own school record, but he also broke the county record which had stood for 28 years. Speaking of county records, Fapetu, Gearhart, and McCray teamed up with Logan Tuck to break the county 4x100 record, running the 4th best time in the state, and running the 2nd fastest time in school history. But the Rocks weren't done winning. Luke Moulder became the first Westfield runner to win the county 3200 in an exciting upset. And Brady Lemieux vaulted a personal best 14-6 to take the pole vault to put himself at #8 in Indiana. And the 4x400 relay of Ryd Wallerstedt, Calerb Haney, Donovan Ledford, and Terril finished off the meet by winning the 4x400 with the 8th best time in the state this season. But those weren't the only great performances in the meet. Logan Tuck finished 3rd in the 110 hurdles, Caleb Haney ran a personal best and finished 4th in the 1600, and Wallerstedt ran a personal best and finished 4th in the 400. In field events, in addition to Lemieux, there were two huge performances in throws, with Jack Eberhart throwing a 3 foot personal best in the shot to finish 2nd, and Jordan Gross finishing 3rd in the discus. Additonally, Austin Scheerer finished 3rd in the pole vault. Also scoring points for the Shamrocks were JP Mikels in the 3200, Chase Thompson in the 400, Caleb Rasche in the 300H, Carson Ackley and Deagan Imel in the 800, and Jay Crumedy and Joey Miles in the long jump. The Shamrocks are back in action next Thursday in the IHSAA Fishers Sectional.
