Westfield hosted Brownsburg Thursday night at Shamrock Field as they opened an HCC series with the Bulldogs. The Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning but the Rocks responded with two runs to tie the game back up in the bottom of the inning. The score remained tied until the Rocks took the lead on a Robbie Brandenburg ground out. Corey Wilhelm started for the Rocks and was outstanding, pitching 5 innings while allowing just four hits, two earned runs, two walks and striking out ten batters for the win. Clayton Walther entered in the sixth and slammed the door shut, pitching two innings of scoreless relief, striking out three and without allowing a hit to earn his second save of the season. Offensively, the Rocks were led by Lincoln Hoffman who was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Maddox Novotney was 1 for 2 with 2 stolen bases. Andrew Noble and Aiden Grabowski each doubled as well. The Rocks will go for the sweep Friday at Brownsburg with first pitch scheduled for 6:30p.
