The Rocks traveled to Brunette Park on Wednesday to face the 3A #4 Cathedral Fighting Irish in a non-conference matchup. The Rocks jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Maddox Novotney reached on an error, scoring Robbie Brandenburg. In the fourth inning, the Irish tied the game up on an RBI groundout. The game remained tied into extra innings before darkness forced the game to end in a tie. Ben Spencer started for the Rocks and threw a gem, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, one earned run, three walks, and four strikeouts in the no-decision. Collin Kern relieved Spencer and pitched 1.1 innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. James Kovacs relieved Kern and pitched 1.1 innings of no-hit relief, striking out one. Evan Govert closed out the 8th inning, pitching .2 innings of hitless relief while striking out one. Offensively, the Rocks had five hits on a tough night to hit weather-wise. Andrew Noble, Lincoln Hoffman, Beck Jordan, and Gavin Russ each collected a hit. Reid Dikos doubled as well. Westfield (4-3-1, 2-0 in HCC play) will open up a conference series with the Brownsburg Bulldogs on Thursday at Shamrock Field at 6 pm.
