Rocks Fall to Grace Christian Academy in Extra Innings

A walk-off left the Rocks on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Grace Christian Academy on Thursday. Grace Christian Academy was down 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning when, with runners at second and third, they singled, scoring two runs for the win. A home run to left field by Gavin Russ put the Rocks on the board in the top of the fourth. GCA tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth with a two run home run. Westfield then took the lead in the top of the ninth on an Andrew Noble sacrifice fly, scoring one run, to give the Rocks the advantage, 3-2. James Kovacs took the tough luck loss for Westfield. The pitcher went three innings, surrendering two runs on four hits, striking out two and walking three. Corey Wilhelm started on the bump for the Rocks. The pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over five and one-third innings, striking out seven and walking one. Gavin Russ drove the middle of the lineup, leading Westfield with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Russ, Kasen Jessup, Andrew Noble, Maddox Novotney, Lincoln Hoffman, and Beck Jordan each collected one hit for the Rocks. Next up for the Shamrocks is a game at Heritage High School on Friday.
