The 4th-ranked Rocks traveled to Bloomington, Indiana, on Monday to open the season against the 2nd-ranked Center Grove Trojans at Bart Kaufman Field at Indiana University. Westfield jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the third inning, and held a 10-5 lead in the bottom of the 7th inning before the Trojans came roaring back with a game-tying grand slam and then walked it off with a walk-off walk to win the game. The offense was outstanding, hammering out nine hits against one of the top pitching staffs in the state. Senior Beck Jordan led the way, going 3 for 4 with 6 RBI on the night. Andrew Noble was 3 for 4 with a stolen base. Gavin Russ had a double and an RBI. Maddox Novotney was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI and a stolen base, while Robbie Brandenburg was 1 for 3 with an RBI as well. The Rocks also had seven stolen bases in total, led by Kasen Jessup's three stolen bases. Aiden Grabowski started on the mound for the Rocks and pitched two innings, allowing two hits and two earned runs. James Kovacs pitched three innings, allowing 4 earned runs on two hits and striking out three. The Rocks will look to rebound from the tough loss when they travel to Franklin Central to open up an HCC Series on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Franklin Central.
